If rats cant have dried corn, why is it in rat mix?!?

I have been feeding my rats a rat mix from Pets Mart. They all have developed liver problems and eventually died. I just found out that dried corn causes liver diseases and there is dried corn in the mix i give to them.

Why on earth would they put a dangerous substance in a mix specially formulated for rats!?If rats cant have dried corn, why is it in rat mix?!?
Because they just want to make money!! They sell cedar and pine bedding too (56% baby rat mortality rate when born on cedar).

They know people just want food that looks fun and is cheap to make, dried corn is really cheap and people think their rats will love it.

I'm so sorry for your ratties :'(If rats cant have dried corn, why is it in rat mix?!?
They put corn in mixes and dog/cat foods because it is a filler and is cheap to use. Sellers aren't concerned about the health of your pet, they care about the sale, and they know if they put ';Rat'; on the food mix then people will buy it because most people don't know any better before they get their pets.

Mixes you buy from pet stores aren't healthy for rats. They pick and choose what too eat and they usually end up obese and unhealthy. Rats should be fed quality lab blocks such as Mazuri, Oxbow, or Harlan Teklad, and this ensures they are getting all the vitamins and nutrients they need. Mazuri can be found at Petsmart but the other 2 are ordered online.

Also like already mentioned, its the mold that corn can have that is a real threat to pets. Most higher quality foods get higher quality corn, and vice versa for poorer quality

A very good online forum for rats is www.goosemoose.com and you can learn alot about their proper care including diet.
Its probably meant to be a type of organic rat poison.

If you don't want your rats to eat corn, look through the engredients and make sure the first 3 ingredients aren't corn.

Its the same for cats and dogs. The cheaper dog or cat food, always has corn in the first 3 ingredients and the higher quality/more expensive ones have it in the last few ingredients or not at all.
its not the actual corn, its a type of mold that's in alot of pet food mixes.i feed my rodents corn and they are all fine.corn isn't the best thing for rodents anyway since it can be fattening.
corn is cheap and looks good to you. the same way that high dollar cat (and dog) food is made as much to look and smell good to you as the cat.
