For people who use fleece as bedding for rats?

Iv heard a lot of people use fleece as bedding for rats so the other day i got some for my two. Only, i put the whole blanket in, thinking they would put it how they like it. Only, have just bundled it into one side of the cage. Is that what you guys do? Or should i cut it up? If so, strips? Squares? Or what??

One of my rats is pregnant - and due any day! So what would be best. Iv got her some extra bedding too.

Advice appreciated :)For people who use fleece as bedding for rats?
We use fleece. The cage the rats are in has shelves and each shelf piece has an elastic strap diagonally across each of the corners that loop under the corner of the shelf.

We also put in some smaller pieces that they end up bunching up in the corner, or in one of their boxes.

We put terrycloth towels under the fleece that covers the shelf.

The people i know that use fleece bedding for guinea pigs, put two layers of towels on the cage floor and then lay the fleece over the top, tucking it down the sides of the towels so it stays in place, then you place all the ratties stuff on top of the fleece and they should'nt be able to pull it out. Then every day you should hoover all the dropping off the top of the fleece with a vacum nozzle or dustbuster and replace the towels with fresh ones every 3 days (the fleece should allow the urine to wic through into the towels keeping the fleece dry) and then the fleece should be washed every week.

Also you may have to wash the fleece a couple of times before it wicks the urine properly.

I hope this helps ^-^
I have the same problem with my little rat. I herd a lot of people use binder clips to hold the fleece to the shelves, But mine is in a tank. I'll be checking this question to find out how to hold it down in a tank. :\
