Rats make excellent pets. Very clean and very clever! How doyou look after rats and what do you feed them?
just like you would look after anyother pet.

Get them out for an hour or two every day or as often as you can.

If you cant be round for them that much get two or three(rats are sociable creatures).

Most people would feed their rat rat food from the petshop or make their own. Our rats dont like it so we give them left over dinner like lasagne and muffin and apples and healthy stuff like that. Its not because its cheaper its just that they seem to prefer it and have more of a variety

Hope this helpsHow doyou look after rats and what do you feed them?
I take care of my rats some times. I've kind of lost interest in them. I feed them rat pellets and pretty much everything else. They really like scrambled eggs and mac %26amp; cheese. Sometimes we give them peanut butter, but its really fattening so we usually just stick to peanuts(they like taking of the shells). My mom has a popsicle (sugar free) every night and she'll sit down in front of their cage and open the door and they'll try to take it into the cage, its so funny, Kahlua with take of a piece and hold it in her hand and then she'll shake it because it got cold! They also love string cheese. I could go on and on, but pretty much they like fruit, veggies, nuts, cereal, etc. nothing like twinkies
rat ';starter'; cages are fine if you're only getting on, but it's bst if you get 2. they are very social and do best with other rats around! get same sex pairs and males are normally lazier while females are more active. get a cage plenty big enough for multiple rats, as they do enjoy having space to roam around.

you should handle them 1-2 hours a day and make sure you change the water and food every few days.

i've made my own food mix for them, there are plenty of ';recipies'; online if you look for home made rat food. otherwise it's reccomended you feed them rat food or rat lab blocks as it's made for them specifically. it'd be like feeding your dog cat food it's whole life, it's just not the same.

i personally don't like the rat balls unless it's a last resort or you're extremely busy some days. i normally let them out for some scritches and some quality shoulder time.

hope this helped some =)
Hi,

BUYING THE PROPER CAGE:

~Make sure that you buy a pretty good sized cage. Rats love to run around.

~Make sure that the bars in the cage aren't an inch apart.

~Make sure that your cage includes a wheel and water bottle. You can buy toys, treats, and a food dish for your rat.

WHEN BUYING YOUR RAT:

~Make sure your rat doesn't have any gunk in the eye, dry tail, sores, cuts, bleeding, bruises, and make sure it has two ears.

THINGS YOU NEED FOR YOUR RAT:

~a cage

~water bottle/dish

~food dish

~bedding

~chew toy

~food

CARING FOR YOUR RAT:

Feed rat 5 TBSP a day. change food everyday. throw uneaten food away.

Change water everyday

Play with rats for at least an hour every day

clean cage twice a week.

I recommend buying them a ball so they can run around a room freely without moving so fast and having some protection.

I hope my answer helped.

~Animal Helper~
It's quite simple. Just a few precautions on top of what you need to do with hamsters.

Check this guide. =)
this is a good website to help you

I hope you enjoy it.
well i buy mine rat food from the pet store, and they get other foods like

ham

chicken

cheese

cucumber

tomatoes

strawberries

bananas

bread

digestive biscuits
feed them every day and don't give them too much food and make them train with their trainig wheel
they thrive on almos anything. they really are smart and they love suprises from lettuce to nuts and cheese. watch and not get them too fat. they are easy toteach all sorts of behavior. and if your are nice and gentle they will never bite you. only if you scae them. first worked with white lab rats and they are very clean. like horses or anyting else they leave droppings you haveto keep clean. they can learn hundreds of tricks. one use to sit by my keyboard all night and slept and did tricks wehn it waked and would work hard to turn junk mail into confetti. quiet and peace little things. some nutty expert will insist on special foodl they like the same things we like as best i can tell.
