it really depends on if she has had baby's before. my female rat had a litter and for a couple of days i kept seein only 5 baby's then as the males turned a couple weeks old i had to separate them ( they will breed with the mother at a VERY young age) as i am holding 4 in my hand i looked down and kept seeing 4 more. they are very good at hiding. haha. also try to handle them a very small amount everyday so they get used to ppl. just be carefull because my female used to pull them back in the cage and they would screem and cry :( but all in all it was a great thing to witness
