to answer your question: noIn spite of all their rage, are conservatives still just rats in a cage?
No, that would be those who refuse to let themselves free of the cage and see the truth. Kind of like animals who don't cross the line at the invisible fence--one bad experience stepping over the line, and they are conditioned to never go back. Never question--never get answers. In spite of all their rage, are conservatives still just rats in a cage?

I absolutely love rats! i have one called Johnny and he is so sweet. he is albino except he has a brown stripe down his nose, which makes him look even sweeter. He was one year old in march and ive had him for a year now. I love him so much and dont know if i could live without him. At first i didnt like the idea of having a rat for a pet but once i saw how sweet they were i was totally changed for life. And i know i want to get another one after Johnny although i dont want there to be an after Johnny. How many of you here own and love rats? If you don't like rats please don't comment..?
I have owned two different rats, but both are now deceased. Sadly, I've become allergic
:(
My last rat had to be hairless, but even he bothered my allergies.
My first rat was named Lewis and I got him at a year of age from an animal shelter.
My second rat was named Leon and he was found in a moving truck. It was a crazy situation where a lady was driving cross-country with 54 animals in a Penske truck. He was living in the cab in a duffel bag!
I HAVE 1 RAT , THEY MAKE GOOD PETS
i LOVE rats i just well sadly dont own 1 but i do have a cat and a dog
we have 3 total...2 girls and a boy :) the girls are melinda and magpie, and the boy is matticus :)
we love them and out of 25 pets, they are our favorite...besides our whites tree frog named milton :)
Awwww I have jumbo fancy rats they are great and to be honest well I kinda dont know how many I have, they just started breeding one day and never stopped so I give alot of them away and send some back to the pet shop I have all colors and kinds even albino and black ones... They are soooo smart too WOW....
I like rats they get a bum name from people who think they carry diseases.. I have two cats so I could never get any ..but I think their cute.....
I like rats! But I don't have any now because my hubby don't like them. I think they are cute!
Little white rats with red eyes playing in their cages? Yes
Big gray rats running loose in the attic or basement? NO!
When I was a kid, my Dad was doing summer classes each year to get his degree. One of his classes in Psychology involved training a white rat to do stuff. At the end of the course the students were allowed to take the rats home if they wanted so my Dad brought Maverick home. He was a great pet. We let him run around in the kitchen and he liked to raid the cat's food dish (the cat's were afraid of him and we have a cute picture of the cats backing away from the rat while the rat eats from their dish). We built an outdoor pen for him but I, being only 6 forgot and left him out and he disappeared forever.
Later in my adult life, I had 2 rats and both bit me and I didn't like them as much but then they weren't big white lab rats.
No rats No comments!
i have had two rats in my life a brown and white rat when i was 10 named squekers and a hairless rat 3 years ago named rat fink..
I don't currently have any rats but in our 4-H club we have ';Pocket Pets'; and rats are included in this project. They are becoming very popular and last year they were included in our county fair.
I love rats and I want one but my fiance won't let me... I'm working on him though!
I love rats. I don't have any, though. Just a dog, a Siamese Fighting Fish (betta) and 3 hermit crabs. I might get some one day, I hope. ;-)

Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?
I read that rats are alot more nutricious and better for snakes. well i have a colombian red tail boa and a ball python well please let me know thanks!!Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?
Either a mouse or a rat would be nutritious for your snake. It doesn't matter which one you feed it because they both are very nutritious for your snakes, but some day you will need to feed your snakes rats because mice will be too small for them too eat and will not give the snake all the nutrients it needs. A snakes main diet is eating rodents, so either a mouse or a rat would be nutritious, but some day you will need to switch your snakes over to rats because they will be too large to only have a mouse.Should you feed rats or mice to snakes?
Yes, feed your snake mice or rats, that's fine. Buying pre-killed, frozen rodents at a pet store is the smartest decision, because the rodents cannot harm your snake like the live feeds can.
I can't imagine that one rodent is more ';nutritious'; than the others, and the difference between feeding your snake rats or mice is all based on the size. Like it's been said before, don't feed your snake anything bigger than the widest part of its body, otherwise it will regurgitate and will probably be shy about eating for a while.
I also have red tailed boas and ball pythons and have had them for many years. I much prefer rats over mice. I breed my own at home and rats are WAY less smelly and rat pups that are a few weeks old are usually what I give to the ball pythons. I let them get a bit bigger before I feed to the boas.
As far as nutrition goes, Mice and Rats are equivalent. It depends on the size of the snake (as others have said) and what they will eat. Some snakes are picky eaters. Some people also feed gerbils, hamsters, or African soft furred rats.
You should feed them mice, not rats.
Rats can actually kill them, it happened to my friend's snake.
Something happened where the rat bit the snake and i don't remember how it died exactly but it was caused by the rat bite.
You can feed either to your snake. It all depends on how big your snake is or whatever your snake prefer. Sometimes the prefer rats over mice. You should feed your snake a mouse or rat the same size as the biggest part of your snakes body.
I think the only factor in whether you feed your snake rats or mice has to do with the size of the snake and or how often you want to feed the snake.
I would feed them only a few rats and mice every few monthes. Mabye a rat and 3 mice every month? I'm not sure, I don't know anything about snakes. I think you should just use rats and mice for snacks
rats is what i prefer but ask the local pet store where you get your live feed, it may depend on the species.
what kind of answer is yes?
It all depends on the size of your snake. bigger snakes like boas or pythons should eat rats, and smaller snakes like garden or milk snakes should eat mice.
Yea i would stick with rats but if mice are cheaper then go for them if u feel like it u kno ur snake better than anyone choose what he likes best which one will he lunge at and which will he eventually eat
Well, snakes live off of rats and other animals in the wild. So yes, it should be fine to feed some to them.

What size water bottle do you use for your rats?
i have to use the ones you get for rabbits as they drink so muchWhat size water bottle do you use for your rats?
I have 1 rabbit sized one and 3 small ones attached to their cage (I have 4 rats). If I am around I don't fill them all up all the time but it is really convenient if I know I am not going to be able to mess with them much for a couple of days (ie going out of town) because they DO drink a lot. What size water bottle do you use for your rats?
i use Ferplast Sippy bottles in 2 cages:
http://www.redmap.co.uk/ferretsabout/acatalog/ferplast_Sippy_Water_Bottles.html
and Classic Crystal Delux Bunny bottles in another 3 cages:
http://www.lamp-post.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CH1621
rats drink more than any other small animal so the bigger the better really, but obviously it has to be cleaned daily as water goes stale
I have a small water bottle that goes to a little blue house in their cage, and a 16 ounce big water bottle. keeping both filled regularly helps stop them fighting over drinking, and keeps them from getting dehydrated. sometimes if they are out of water and are real thirsty i also put a water bowl in there so that all three can drink at once.
i don't have a pair of rats but i would use this,
http://www.petsathome.com/find/category-鈥?/a>
My 2 guinea pigs and my rabbits used this one also my hamster uses the small version and i know my friend who uses this one who has a pair of rats,
I use a 'Super Pet Flat-Bac' water bottle. It works great! It doesn't drip (only for the first few mins.) and it has a little rubber duck that floats arround to show you the water level. I dont think the size matters. It all depends on what you think. Here is a link:
http://www.petguys.com/-045125619330.htm鈥?/a>
The one I use is about 150ml. That is attached to the side of the cage. Then I have a tiny ceramic dish/bowl that was originally for sauce that I also fill up every morning. He likes to splash it around a bit but also drinks from this. I refil them everyday but if I didn't it would probably last 2 full days.
I have 4 male rats and this is the one I use:
http://www.strictlypetsupplies.com/_0767鈥?/a>
I have to refill it every other day.
i have a rabbit sized one and a hamster sized one, i always have two for the cage just in case one breaks or something like that.
For 14 rats we have 5 medium sized water bottles.
a median, i would'nt recommend the small because you constitly need to be changing it.
buy 2 medium size ones

Is cheese bad for rats?
I know some certain foods are good and some are bad for rats. does anyone know what foods are best for me to give to my ratties? Is cheese bad for rats?
I agree, cheese really isn't very good for rats. I have 7 rats. I feed them a pelleted diet called Katee FortiDiet. I believe ZuPreem also makes a good pelleted diet. If you can find any sort of lab diet or lab blocks for rats, this is also good. Pelleted and block food is good for them because it has all of the nutrients they need. If you buy the food with seeds, they will often eat just the very fatty and not very nutritious sunflower seeds. Better ideas for treats are peanuts and peanut butter, small pieces of fruit or vegetable like carrot or apple, unfrosted cereal like cheerios, or a few occational kibbles of dry dog food. Don't give your rats anything with carbonation (beer, soda, etc). And remember, give treats just every so often. You don't want fat, unhealthy rats.Is cheese bad for rats?
okay chees is fin for rats here are some other things you can give them:
apples
carrots
bread (if they'll eat it)
chips
just don't give them any poison or any beverages we drink other than water!!
give them a little square of cheese every day. it depends how many you have
Give them rat food and cheese only if you have to. The love cheese but it isnt really good for them.
dairy products are not good for rats. humans are the only mammal on earth that consume milk or milk products after they are weaned. in most animals milk will cause diaheraa and dehydration. aviod it if you can.

If you have male rats, have they gone through the agressive phase?
ive read that male rats can become very agressive at 6 months old, but this hasnt happened with mine and they are now 1 year oldIf you have male rats, have they gone through the agressive phase?
every rat is different not all go through the phases you have read about and not all go through dominance or alpha male things either. If they are a year old chances are you are lucky and will not go through it.If you have male rats, have they gone through the agressive phase?
In my experience (I have had 26 pet rats, mainly bucks) if a group of boys have been together since birth they very quickly establish a pecking order, and I don't see any of the aggresion I see amongst boys who have been introduced at a later age and so have ';something to prove'; in the cage. Aggression usually occurs around 3-4 months, when they also start to lose their baby-soft hair and go coarser and greasier, a bit like human teenage boys, haha. But your ratties sound very happy, so go enjoy them!
most don't become aggressive, I had one male that did though, it wasn't until he was a year old and up until then was the sweetest, most outgoing and bravest rat I ever had. But it seemed like overnight he became a different rat, he bit me every time I put my hand in or near the cage, started pissing excessively and hissed alot too. So I'd give it another couple of months to be sure that yours are okay. Although if at the moment they don't pee everywhere when you let them out, their piss doesn't smell strong and they don't rub a lot over the cage and toys, then you should be fine.
They don't always become aggressive %26amp; none of our males have become aggressive with maturity. Our current boys are 14 %26amp; 15 months old %26amp; still get along fine.
it largely depends on how many you have and if two or more a fighting to be alfa rat, otherwise they usually get on well together.
only to each other, and that was just a dominant thing. my three boys get on very well now but still squabble from time to time.
